Proverbs
For the LORD gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding;

Proverbs 2:6

The Word
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

The Cross

The Cross

In evil long I took delight,
Unawed by shame or fear,
Till a new object struck my sight,
And stopped my wild career.

I saw One hanging on a tree,
In agonies and blood;
He fixed His languid eyes on me,
As near His cross I stood.

Sure never till my latest breath,
Shall I forget that look!
It seemed to charge me with His death,
Though not a word He spoke.

A second look He gave, which said,
“I freely all forgive;
This blood is for thy ransom paid;
I die that thou mayest live.”

Thus while His death my sin displays
In all its blackest hue,
Such is the mystery of grace,
It seals my pardon too!

  • Hi John :-)
    “Sure never till my latest breath,
    Shall I forget that look!”

    I don’t think any of us will forget that look. That’s the one that cuts to the quick and forces us to our knees in absolute surrender, when we realise who and what we are before God without Christ, or the second look when the understanding of what Christ accomplished on the Cross runs straight to our heart and out in a monumental surge of joy that we have indeed been saved by the power of God.
    1 Corinthians 1:18
    For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

    I praise God for both those ‘looks’. One crushes the flesh and the other lifts and brings eternal Hope that is both steadfast and sure.
    Thank you for this beautiful, edifying poem/song. :-D
