This song is simply the most influential song I think I’ve ever heard. I’ve heard it sung by so many different artists, including recordings I’ve done myself, but I never tire of hearing it. I’m a little tired right now as I’ve just finished a night shift, but I am struggling to hold back the tears just from listening to this song once again.

It was the first thing I noticed too. I don’t mind at all because I love the chord sequence for that song anyway, but Blind Boys of Alabama are one of my favourite blues/gospel bands of all time too. Mixed in with a bit of Ry Cooder on slide accompaniment and I’ve goosebumps all over.
But to me, above all it’s the words my brother, it’s the words!! How I relate to those words!
I finally remembered to listen. I have never heard of this group before. I really like the easy blues/spiritual sound. This tune is one of the first I learned on guitar – still like to let my fingers move around the chords.
The song in it’s original tune was played to death at our school, way back -(too far back for my liking!) It has also been played at every funeral I have ever been to…I guess I kind of stopped listening to the words for a while.
New tunes often allow you to re-listen to some songs, as this one did.
Conviction “Without a thorough conviction of sin, men may seem to come to Jesus and follow Him for a season, but they will soon fall away and return to the world.”
This is a great version of the song…. Don’t know if you recognized the tune they sang it to… it was a song I believe from the 70′s
“House of the Rising Sun”

God bless,

Amen John,
I like the chord patterns as well but Amazing Grace is what it is all about!
