The Word For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”
Part three of a ten part Saffron Planet investigation of the Word of Faith movement, featuring Justin Peters. This part continues the debate on being “slain in the spirit” – is there a difference between “forwards” and “backwards” falling?! Also a look at Kenneth Hagin and a review of the history of the WOF movement.
On watching this clip you can get out with mixed ideas. This women Maria was saying she was told she will be healed and then on having a test she found out that she was healed.Well let us go back to Job,who gave Job the boils, who killed his children.Satan can counterfeit the disease as well as the healing,if he wants you to believ in him,and if he could get you to believe in signs and wonders and not in the word. The word is our guide not signs and wonders. What did Jesus say an adulterous and evil generation seeks a sign.I can knock you down, steal your wallet and then return it so that you start believing in me.We have to test everything by the word not by sight. She also said that Jesus said greater miracles than mine you can do in my name, well he also said that same thing about antichrist.Signs follow those who believ not we follow signs. While I still believe that God heals, because He has healed me,I do not believe in going against what is not scriptural. The ends do not justify the means.the wizards in Moses time could counterfeit the miracles,so this is not a new phenomena at all.Gullible people will always seek a sign, the word is not enough for them,Jesus is the Word so they are seeking manifestations not Jesus.
I would agree with you that what Maria said in the video could give a mixed message. You’ll notice also though that Justin Peters replies by saying that although the experience was real for Maria there is no biblical support for the details of what occurred.
The bible is our only source of objective truth and therefore all things need to be discerned against it. We must not lift experience ( no matter how seemingly good it is) above the truth of the word of God.
I am sure that the team at Saffron Planet believe the same.
I think when you throw together a varied mix of folk together for the discussions that we have on Saffron Planet, all sort of ideas and experiences are going to come up, usually in a fairly random manner. That’s what we do, we believe our role is just to chat among ourselves and, by doing so, encourage others to do the same. A catalyst for folk to search the scriptures for themselves. It’s great that your forum is discussing our talks but never think that we are going to have the final word on any subject. We’re just having a good time talking together as a group of friends – albeit in a tiny room stuffed with cameras and audio equipment!
We would welcome any discussion ideas or potential guests. Our next session is going to focus on “Does God talk to folk today”, covering cessationism and such things …
As with Andy, I am enjoying these videos of you guys chatting with Justin Peters, as I have enjoyed previous stuff you’ve published. I appreciate your openness and honesty in the way you discuss matters, and can understand what you said about a mixed bag of people chatting together freely.
The one thing I appreciate about your ministry, and I hope you never lose, is that someone always seems to be present with a deeper knowledge of the Word than average. I think that ability to draw the conversation back to Scripture is crucial, otherwise it can just become a discussion about personal opinions and interpretations.
Your kind words are such an encouragement to us, as sometimes it feels we are broadcasting out into a vacuum. You are the only ministry to grab our vision and run with it practically. Bless you for that. We have decided to go “video” with 10 minute Youtube instalments to try and get the stuff distributed more around the web. It’s early days but we’ve made a reasonable start. If you are in the London area on Palm Sunday, you are welcome to sit in on our next session.
The great thing about doing these sessions is that it forces us all to get into the Word more, which is such a blessing for all of us here.
Psalms The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous,
And His ears are open to their cry.
The face of the LORD is against those who do evil,
To cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.
