Before I continue with this article, I would just like to make something perfectly clear. I believe there is only ONE way of eternal salvation open to man, and that is through the ONE and the ONLY Lord of Heaven and Earth, Who is Jesus Christ, as testified to from the pages of the Holy Bible. I believe that every religion known to man that refuses to accept Him as God incarnate, is a religion that leads to hell. And every religion that does not accept that He came from heaven to earth in the flesh to save sinful man, through His own death and resurrection, is a religion with no power to save anyone.
With all that said, I would like to raise my own voice in condemnation of the foolishness that has just been roused in the name of Christ, and that is the so called “International Burn a Qu’ran Day”. This has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with proclaiming the Gospel of Christ, nor does it have anything to do with defending the truth that was once for all delivered to the saints. But rather it is a sick and twisted way in which the self righteous can attempt to oppress those they perceive as the enemy in the name of Christ.
I have no qualms about burning a Qu’ran, or any other text that masquerades as the truth, and yet is a lie. I have no problem with accepting persecution from Muslims who find offense in me preaching a Gospel of salvation that demands their repentance from a dead faith that will never save them from the wrath of God. But let the Gospel message of Christ crucified and risen again be the object that causes offense, not my own foolish actions!
In the Bible there is a written account of religious books being burned:
Also, many of those who had practiced magic brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. And they counted up the value of them, and it totaled fifty thousand pieces of silver. So the word of the Lord grew mightily and prevailed. Acts 19:19-20
When you read through this account however, you can see that it has no grounds to be claimed for the inspiration for today’s madness. The passage written in the book of Acts involved repentant sinners turning from their idols, and making a public statement by burning what was once precious to them in the sight of all. They were not attempting to cause the anger of others to raise in self righteous indignation, but crushing their false idols in the sight of the One True God.
The mentality of these charlatans claiming to be doing the will of God by burning the Qu’ran today are no different to those who attempted to promote the Gospel with the edge of the sword, as in the days of the Crusades. It would be my suggestion that if they are feeling so brave and courageous, to instead take a trip into their local Muslim community armed solely with a Bible, and pitch up on a local street corner to preach the Gospel message instead. If that were the example I saw before my eyes today, I would be right now on my knees before God, crying out that He may grant me the same passion for Christ and His Gospel, that I may be willing to lay down my life in the same way too.
