My son, do not despise the chastening of the LORD, Nor detest His correction; For whom the LORD loves He corrects, Just as a father the son in whom he delights.

Proverbs 3:11-12

The Word
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

I will offer up my life

Jesus asks us to give up our lives to Him completely, to give up any right to ourselves in return for Him having given up His on the Cross and drinking the full cup of the wrath of God, that should have been laid fully on us, He  drank Himself – He became sin for us!

Take a moment to think about that.

God could not look upon Him because of what He had become, and the heart-wrenching brokenness that God had separated from Him for that time until the Atonement was paid in full, caused our beloved Jesus to cry out, “Lord, Lord, why have you forsaken me!?”

In the light of this, is the cost really too much?

I will offer up my life
In spirit and truth,
Pouring out the oil of love
As my worship to You
In surrender I must give my every part;
Lord, receive the sacrifice
Of a broken heart

Jesus, what can I give, what can I bring
To so faithful a friend, to so loving a King?
Saviour, what can be said, what can be sung
As a praise of Your name
For the things You have done?
Oh my words could not tell, not even in part
Of the debt of love that is owed
By this thankful heart

You deserve my every breath
For You’ve paid the great cost;
Giving up Your life to death,
Even death on a cross
You took all my shame away,
There defeated my sin
Opened up the gates of heaven
And have beckoned me in
