If most of us were asked the question “Are you a good person?”, then in all honesty most of us would probably answer “yes”. This wouldn’t necessarily be a lie, but merely a true reflection of what we consider to be good in relation to ourselves. This is why we would naturally answer yes to the question, based upon the fact that we tend to judge our own righteousness upon the unrighteousness of others. Looking at it this way, I doubt if any reading this post could fail to find someone who they would not win a contest against, if the basis of winning was to be less wicked than the other.
From the perspective of the Gospel however, it must be pointed out that we are not judged by God in the same manner. We are not held up and compared one to another by God, deciding who is the cleanest to be found. If that were the case, I would be one shouting loudly “Live for today, for tomorrow you die!”. The truth is however, that just as we tend to judge another by comparing them to ourselves, we too will be judged by God in comparison to His own righteousness, which is utterly perfect!
With this in mind I will rephrase the question in the title to another, and know this without doubt, that to answer in the negative will point out to you loudly and clearly, that you are indeed in need of salvation. The question is this:
Are you a perfect person in every way, without fault in thought, word or deed?
If you are, then well done you. Or if you are totally confident that the Holy Bible is a total myth, to be utterly rejected as false, then I can say nothing more. However if you have even the faintest shred of uncertainty in your mind, I ask that you consider the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I exhort you to repent and believe the Good News of His salvation, that you may put your trust in Him as both Lord and Saviour, and in so doing inherit eternal life in Him.
